Fabergé gold and enamel cigarette case, Workmaster Michael Perchin, St Petersburg, 1899- 1903. Est: 60,000-80,000 pounds.

A cache of Faberge and other opulent objects once owned by Russian nobles will be sold at Sotheby’s in London in November, estimated to tally about one million pounds.

The 100-lot sale comprises cigarette boxes, cufflinks and photographs and was once owned by the impressively titled Her Imperial Highness Maria Pavlovna, Grand Duchess Vladimir. She died less grandly in exile in France in 1920. Her husband, His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich, was the son of Emperor Alexander II.

The goods, laden with coats of arms and Imperial inscriptions, went missing for ninety-one years and recently were discovered “among diplomatic holdings in Stockholm,” according to a Sotheby’s press release. Some of the items contain remnants of their original use, including vintage tobacco and Bogdanov cigarettes.
