Henri's Jimmie Gerry

The Bank of America Art Collection — which requires 13 curators to manage holdings — is paring back.

Last month the bank sold Ashcan painter Robert Henri’s ruddy cheeked 1921 portrait “Jimmie Gerry” at Sotheby’s May 21 American Painting sale for $242,500. Bank of America acquired the picture along with the Florida-based Barnett Bank which was later merged into BoA. Barnett purchased the painting at Christie’s in 1988 for $65,000.

Henri’s blue eyed boy is nothing like the sleek cutting edge art featured at Bank of America’s new midtown Manhattan skyscraper — the second tallest in NYC — which features the video art of Jennifer Steinkamp, a light installation by Spencer Finch, as well as works by Chris Burden, Emilio Perez and Linda Bessemer.
